Welcome Youtubers!
I thought it'd be a good idea to (re)introduce this blog, now that I've done some shameless self-promoting on my Youtube channel. By the way, when I use the word "shameless" I literally mean it: I feel no shame at all in doing it. I'm not shoving down your throats something you don't want, I'm not trying to scam anybody into nothing. Shameless.
On the other hand, I do feel compelled to clarify what goes on this particular communication channel.
Personally, I guess I would have a lot of trouble if I had to tell someone specifically what the heck is it that I do around here. Is there really an answer to that? It's just like Youtube, in a way: you choose to do it at some point, and then things happen. Sure, I could talk about my channel in many ways:
First off, I enjoy writing and I've been doing it in many forms for as long as I can remember. Instead of putting it as something that keeps me sane (which it is), I like to think about my writing as a form of ascetic activity. A way to pull myself up from dark places, a way to center myself when I'm too scattered, and also an end in itself. Heck, I can even say that I've gotten laid off of my vocabulary a few times. (No, I don't do this to get chicks.)
By the way, when I'm writing I tend to be less concerned about being politically correct (like avoid swearing) and much more worried about the solidifying, so to speak, the head space in which I inhabit. Writing is also a way to exercise my ability to project any given mindset I find positive and valuable. It's just like going to the gym.
The same way that going through my old videos you'll have a pretty good idea of what I like to do here, going through my old blog archive would give you an idea of what to expect. In writing, the light stuff I chat about on a video is simply too innocuous to deserve the time and effort. The stuff I do on twitter is even easier to consume. So take your pick and enjoy the ride!

- "Yeah, I do this youtube video thingy sometimes, kinda lika hobby or something... It's cool and all."
- "I have this skit in Portuguese in which I rant and ramble about stuff that happened on the Brazilian Internet."
- "A friend and I are doing some videos teaching survival phrases in Portuguese just for fun."
- "I show stuff in Japan and like... right?"

It's funny how different the video medium is to the written one. With your face there, all of a sudden "accountability" begins to rear its head.
ReplyDeleteWhat I've found through the adjustment however, is something that my Japanese architect friends often say - restriction fosters creativity. Sometimes it is having those limitations that makes you come up with better stuff than what you would do with out any limits at all.
Writing has its own boundaries and limitations, but as a different medium, I am enjoying using it on my blog. Looking forward to reading more of your stuff.
Peace
