Settle down

When I was a practicing high school teacher back home in Brazil, a young girl's life dream literally shattered my heart. We were talking about future possibilities and career choices. I was expressing my vision of life as a beautifully mysterious and exuberantly fleeting thing, when she dropped the bomb.

She wanted to be an accountant working for the government.

I couldn't believe it. Why would a smart girl like her choose such a dull job? She said she wanted the stability of an uninspiring job with good pay.

How much fear of life had to be shoved down this girl throat to bring her to such uninspiring decision? Have I been walking through life with fear or with ease?
